In everyday life, you have to take a chance every now and then. It is true that it is a little more controlled although that may be perceived and not actual. In a game of online poker, you are taking a chance with the money in your bankroll when you make a bet.
Again it might be in some sort of controlled circumstances but with cards it is still luck of the draw. There is always a chance somebody has a better hand. So even if you are pretty sure you have the better hand you may not and are taking a chance on making a bet.
Is it worth the risk? It all depends s on the situation. Just as in real life. Do you take the chance to take the last shot and maybe miss, if it is to win the game? Same when you play a game of poker. You take a chance based off of what you currently know about the situation. Whether it is a bad decision or not you will not know until the situation has passed that caused you to have to make the decision in the first place.
If you are lucky you make the basket and win the game. Or play your cards and win a big pot. If not, then you miss the shot and lose the game or lose the money you bet. Regardless you have to be admired at for trying. Although if it is something habitual then you may be booed at and have to live with it.
Such is life, you deal with it as it happens and good or bad you made your decision. At the time the decision was right although it may turn out to be bad in the end. You never know until you play your cards. However, do you stop taking chances because of one bad decision? I would hope not.
Luck can change at the drop of a hat. Or card if you are playing online poker. As you play the cards seem to develop a dynamic all their own. Sometimes going to one person for a little while, but always coming around the table to visit everybody playing at some time. However brief it may be.
So take a chance. Make a bet on a hand you might not of normally made a bet. You never know you might end up being the big winner on the table. Luck is with all of us. We just have to play with it to get it to come our way.
So take your chance. Don’t be crazy, although that might work out also. Look at your cards decide your chances, and if you still have a chance to win make that bet and play your game as you would if you had a better chance. You never know it may work out to your benefit.
After all the object of the game is to have fun while you play.
If everyone played poker safe then it wouldn’t be as interesting as it is and the gains wouldn’t be as great as they can be. Winning isn’t guaranteed, it’s a form of gambling which is why you have to take a gamble, take the risk sometimes if you feel it’s the right thing to do, and it may just pay off.
I agree with you on that. Poker would be relatively boring compared to how it is now if everyone just played it safe all the time and didn’t take any risks. I feel that it is the “living on the edge” style of the game when betting that makes the game so enjoyable for me.
Taking risks is fine but it’s best to take informed risks rather than random risks. It’s fair to take the risk if you feel that your hand is the highest there could possibly be, but if your hand is of a low quality then you really shouldn’t be taking the risks at all. It’s all a part of the learning process of the game.
I’ve taken some really dumb risks in poker and paid dearly for them, there have also been times when I saw a chance to take a risk but declined for fear of losing. It took me a while to get the hang of it and figure out when it was worth taking a risk and when it wasn’t. It certainly is part of the learning process of the game and that’s why we learn from our mistakes.
