In order to understand online poker you need to know the most used terms at the tables in online poker. The following is a list of the terms starting by C.
C
Call: The action by which a player equals the bet of another player in order to advance to draw cards or to show cards face up if it is the last betting round. It is one of the basic actions of poker.
Calling station: A player who frequently calls instead of folding or raising. It is one of the most profitable players you can encounter at online poker tables, make sure to exploit their weakness.
Cap: The maximum allowed raises when playing a limit poker game. Usually it is four.
Case Card: The last card available of a certain rank or suit you need to complete a hand.
Center pot: Sometimes due to a player running out of chips another pot must be created for the rest of players to keep betting. The center pot is the first pot created and where all the players active in the hand have money invested into it. It is also called Main pot.
Check: (1) Another basic action of poker by which a player passes without betting but reserves the right to act later. (2) It is another word to say “chip” when talking about poker chips.
Check raise: It is a composite action of poker by which a player checks and then raises the bet of another player. Usually used when slow playing.
Coffee housing: Trying to mislead other players by discussing the currently played hand in the chat room. It is of very bad etiquette to do this.
Cold call: To call multiple bets or raises. For example if a player bets, a second player raises and a third player calls both bets. This is what we call a cold call.
Come Hand: A hand which the player must draw to complete.
Complete Hand: It is a hand which uses all five cards to be done. Straight, flush, full house, and straight flush are the only complete hands at Texas Hold’em poker. Some other games which are played with a joker also include five of a kind.
Connector: Having connectors is to have pocket cards with consecutive ranks so you can easily connect them to a straight.
Counterfeit: Having a great hand but becoming useless because the community cards in the board duplicate your hand, making it available for all players.
Crack: The act of a great hand being “cracked” down or beaten by a hand which had much lesser odds to win. This leads to a bad beat to the player with the cracked hand.
Cripple: The act of crippling the deck is when you have all the cards necessary to make a good hand with the current cards in the board. An example is if there is a pair of 8’s shown in the table and you got pocket 8’s. You have crippled the deck because nobody else but you can get a good hand with these cards.
Been in a few online games where the chat has mentioned the term Coffee Housing, never knew what it meant and didn’t want to ask and give away my lack to thorough experience, Glad I know now, Thanks.
I didn’t know what the heck people meant when they kept saying crack in online game chat so I was and still am in the same boat as you Lightningstryke.
I’ve come across a few people in my online games who are guilty of this “Coffee Housing” It is very annoying, gets to the point where I just close the chat off so I don’t have to see the rubbish.
Yes it is an annoyance when you come across it. Luckily though the majority of online poker games I have played didn’t consist of these types of players, it was just a select few and mainly when I started playing online, not really much anymore.
