When the game of poker becomes the topic of conversation it’s automatically how good this “guy” is or how great “he” played in that game. So this article is changing the conversation to “she” is amazing or “she” played an awesome game. So here goes the story about Annie Duke who happens to be one of the best FEMALE poker players in the world.
When it comes to gambling blood flowing through ones veins Annie can step up to the forefront here. She was raised in a family where cards was a household word and just as pleasurable as a home cooked meal.
Annie’s character was not one to sit back and be the woman of the house. At least when she started out in search of her future it was towards becoming a teacher. Her studies led her to major in English and Psychology. Hmm, I wonder if the psychology part has anything to do with her precision poker playing.? She went on with the anticipation to take her doctorate in Cognitive psychology.
To make life more interesting Anne proposed marriage to an old friend, who accepted and off the happily married couple went to live in poverty stricken bliss. Doing the one thing she knew best Annie started playing poker in local poker rooms. Not for the sake of played the game she loved but as a means to pay the mortgage. It’s obvious that Annie was going to put her natural poker talents to work and that she did.
Now Annie Duke’s brother happens to be the male version of the famous Poker player and that’s Howard Lederer. Howard encouraged his sister to play in the 1994 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Annie never saying no to a challenge did so, took 13th place and knocked her brother out of the tournament. I wonder though if she had to take any of the actions that are mention in this article Things to do When you Lose a Hand.
Three cheers ladies! For our side.
Within one month of poker competitions Annie Duke pocketed 70K, and it didn’t take long before she and hubby packed up and headed for Las Vegas where she belonged. After all Annie is a working girl and needed to be where her work is. The Las Vegas Casinos.
What a great success story! Annie Duke making her mark in what was once perceived a man’s game. Annie’s claim to poker fame included winning the much coveted WSOP gold bracelet in 2004. Added to this same year she whipped the butts of 8 of the world’s greatest poker legends.
So what’s the moral of the story? With some attractive looks, and strong will, a great personality, and a whole of guts you can be the next Annie Duke. It may be sitting at a poker table, or at an online poker room or in the kitchen baking pies. We women can do whatever we set our minds to. It’s women like Annie Duke that just makes us realize that we can be poker queens too if we choose to do so. So move over guys make room at that the table!

I think that it is common for people to forget that there are some absolutely extrodinary female poker players as well as males. Players such as annie are both talented and inspirational at the same, she took something that she enjoys doing and found a way to help herself and her husband in a financial manner as well as a way to make a name for herself all whilst doing something that she really does thoroughly enjoy. Whilst many people sit day after day at a job that they do purely for the cash and not because they actually enjoy it or want to do it, people like annie can simply go play a few hands of their favourite game and if they win that game can pay the next six months worth of bills and living expenses so good on her and any others!
