Don’t you just love it when you just get yourself settled into your comfy chair, boot up the computer, log onto your favorite poker site then all of a sudden you hear “honey, have you got a minute?” coming from the other room.
There just has to be a set of in house rules for the at home online poker players around the world. Here are a few you can start with and you may want to add some personal ones that are applicable to you.
RULE #1:
If anyone is near the vicinity of the computer and they hear the words “Welcome to the Casino” then it means to all those not sitting in front of the computer, “stay away”.
RULE #2:
If we have had our dinner and I have put the trash out and you can’t find me, then don’t come looking for me. If you happen to see me in front of the computer, then pretend I am away on a business trip.
RULE #3:
If you are a bit short of money for paying the house bills make sure you don’t get behind on the hydro or the internet bills.
RULE #4:
Don’t make any plans to go out socializing between 7PM and 1AM .
RULE #5:
If you see me reaching into my pocket for the credit card, don’t bother checking the statement this month.
RULE #6:
If the neighbours stop by and I am at the computer tell them we just washed all the carpets and they are wet, and to stop by some other time.
RULE #7:
If junior needs the computer to do his homework then just give him bus fare to go use the library computers.
RULE #8:
Don’t clean or dust around the computer in case you disturb a wire or something.
RULE #9:
Tell your friends not to send emails during the evening. It disturbs my game to hear “you’ve got mail”.
RULE #10:
Make sure the bathroom is free so I can get there and back in between games, so there are no interruptions.
RULE #11:
When I am on the computer take the phone off the hook. Then you won’t have to stretch the truth and say I am in the shower when someone calls for me.
RULE #12:
Don’t ask me how I’m doing . You might jinx me. Or I could end up making one of those mistakes that were mentioned in that article 5 common mistakes to avoid while playing online poker.
RULE #13:
Blow me a kiss on your way to bed. I’ll catch it in between hands.
RULE #14:
Don’t forget to lock the doors and leave the hall light on when you retire for the night.
These are just a few simple rules that any reasonable poker player could ask to be adhered to. After all everyone is entitled to a little privacy to shake off the stress of the day.
One of my rules at home is that dinner is to be served to me where I am sitting at the time it is ready and that condiments and salt and pepper are to be pre added to avoid any disruptions.
I used to eat my dinner at the computer whilst playing a great game of poker but I no longer do that unless it’s a meal that can be held in entirity in one hand, such as a burger, this is because I got excited one night i’d played a great hand and won an impressive amount of money, and I accidently knocked my hot plate of food all over my keyboard and myself, not good.
My rules when im playing at home include that the phone will not be answered by me when i am playing, the same goes for the door and there is to be no hover over my shoulder telling me what to do with my hand.
My husband loves to sit at home and play a few hands and just as he has his rules for when he is online playing, I also have rules which I have put in place for when he is playing, they are: 1- If you are playing then i may watch what ever soap opera i wish on the television and 2- Don’t whinge at me if you are losing, sit there, be quiet and play your game.
I myself have a specific rule for when i am relaxing at home shaking off my stresses from a day full of housework and cleaning up messes of which the majority of i did not make in the first place, my rule is simple: Do not mention housework to me at all when i am playing my poker, if you mention anything that needs to be cleaned or has something to do with cleaning then that automatically places that cleaning task onto the shoulders of the person who mentioned it.
