To make the best at online poker tables you need to understand the jargon used by players. The following is a list of the terms from M to O.
M
Maniac: A type of player who plays very loose and very aggressively. Maniac players are profitable players for players playing solidly.
Middle Pair: To hit a pair with the second highest card on the flop. This situation only is called like that if you are hitting it with a card into your pocket, not if you already have a pair into your pocket which is the second highest.
Minnie: In some poker variations a Minnie is the lowest hand possible. Some games pay for the lowest hand as well as for the highest.
Muck: (1) The pile of discarded or unused cards. (2) The act of not showing your cards after you have won a hand by forcing the rest of players to fold or not showing them when you have lost the round. It is very recommendable to muck your cards and most poker sites have an automatic option to do so instead of asking every time you are in the situation of showing your hand or mucking it.
N
No Fold’em Hold’em: When in a table all or the most part of players are calling stations who always call until the river. When in a table cards are usually shown on the river because players don’t fold.
No Limit: When players can bet any amount of chips in a single bet. The only limit is the amount of chips in your stack. No limit Hold’em is the most popular poker game.
Nuts: The best hand that any player can have in a situation, but opposite to Iron Duke this hand can be bested by further cards dealt on the table. Absolute nuts has the same meaning as Iron Duke or Lock.
O
Offsuit: When the cards in the pocket are not of the same suit. It is usually named as just “off” or signaled as an “o” when writing about them. For example JTo will mean a Jack and a Ten of different suits.
Openers: The hand which starts the game.
Outdraw: Winning a pot when you were behind, but improved your hand by drawing the right card.
Outs: Cards that will improve a given hand. This is used to calculate the pot odds and completely necessary to play poker according to the pot odds and to develop a solid play.
Outrun: Beating another hand.
Overcard: A card into the pocket that is higher than the cards shown on the board. You can have several overcards and this is used to calculate the outs you have to beat a possible pair. If you are holding AK and the flop is 3, 8, J you have two overcards.
Overpair: A pair of cards into the pocket which are higher than any other possible pair combined on the board. If for example you got KK and the flop is 4, 8, Q you got an overpair.
“No fold ‘em hold ‘em” I hadn’t heard of that until now but that is a really catchy phrase. “Outdraw” is new to me as well. Lucky I found this site so I can learn some new terminology, helps me translate in my online games.
