Terms You Must Know to Play Poker Q to R

When it comes to online poker, some special terms are used by players and you should know them in order to play properly. This is a list of the terms from Q to R.

Q

Quads: Same as four of a kind. A hand composed by four cads of the same rank.
Quart: A straight flush of four cads instead of five.
Quarter: Getting ¼ of the pot. This may happen because you tied with another 3 players or in some variations of poker where the pot is split up among different players for different reasons like having the highest or the lowest hand etc…

R

Ragged board: A board full of crappy cards that doesn’t look like helping anybody. It is also called ragged flop when there is a flop with disperse low cards, something like (2d, 4h, 8c).
Rainbow: When a flop comes with 3 cards of different suits making it impossible to draw for flush in the turn.
Rake: The money taken by the house from every pot. This is the profit of the site, as in poker rooms the player is not playing against the house.
Rakeback: A promotion offered by some sites where you get back a part of the rakes taken at the end of the week or the month.
Rank: The value of hand or cards. For cards the value is stated by the number in them and then Jack (J), Queen (Q), King (K) and Ace (A). The rank of hands is high card, pair, double pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush and royal flush.
Ranking: The position of a player in a tournament, this may be the final ranking when the tournament has finished or the position the player is placed in a given time.
Represent: A kind of bluffing where you are playing as if you had a certain hand, but you don’t. This is a very effective way of bluffing and usually fish are caught into this trap.
Ring game: A game where players are betting real money instead of chips. In a ring game a player can sit out whenever he wants and keep all the money he’s got in this moment. Ring games are very popular as you can sit when you want and sit out whenever you please.
River: The fifth community card dealt. It is the final one and after it comes the last betting round.
Rock: A kind of player who plays extremely tight and rarely bluffs. It is a boring player to play with and very easy to avoid; as they only play the best hands you just have to fold in the little hands they play.
Runner: Or mostly said “runner-runner” is a hand where a player is behind another and keeps calling the bettor to finally win the pot by getting the right hands on the turn and the river. It is something usually done by calling stations and it is just a matter of luck.

I have been to a vast amount of online forums and other sites as well as a fair few online casinos that mention this “rakeback” feature, I had been wondering for quite some time what this means but didn’t want to ask anyone as I didn’t want to look like a fool, now i’ve read this I don’t need to ask because I now know the answer so thanks, now if I am lost in the terminology I will just check here.

“Rock” players, excessively boring and plain players to be pitted against, take the excitement from the game, although on the bright side they are very easy to win against because of the transperancy of their game play and are great to play against for those people who are newer to the game.

I was in the exact same situation. I had asked a few people what it was but the answers that I got in return were nothing short of absolutly confusing so when I finally found my way to this site by a friend of mine who led me this way I was very relieved, I was starting to get annoyed with it all.
