Terms You Must Know to Play Poker S

In order to play online poker properly it is a must to know the terms used for players. This is a list of the terms starting with S.

S

Scare card: A card appearing on the turn or the river that may crack the previously best hand, making it as a good moment to bluff. An ace on the river is a good example of scare card, or the third card of the same suit.
Second Pair: Having a pair with the second highest card. When it comes to the flop it has the same meaning as middle pair.
Sell: Selling a hand means to bet a relatively small amount of money when you have a very strong hand, hoping the rest of players to call it while they will otherwise fold if you bet a strong amount of money. This is only treated like this in the last bet.
Semi-Bluff: It is when somebody bluffs by betting a large amount of money while having nothing, but he still has chances to draw the right card and hit a good hand.
Set: Same as three or four of a kind.
Short stacker: Somebody who systematically enters in ring games with the minimum allowed amount. Usually short stackers do not play the cards, just are limited to go all in or fold.
Showdown: The moment when all players involved in a hand must show their cards to see who has the bigger hand and wins the pot. It is the last phase of a poker game.
Side pot: When a player runs out of chips and more players keep betting, they do it in a separate pot, called side pot. It is possible to see more than 1 side pot in a table if various players run out of chips.
Sit out: To leave a table. In online poker you can sit out but still keep your sit available for 1 or more blind rounds.
Slow Play: To bet small money or to check when you got a strong hand so that other players won’t fold or will bet and then raise them. Doing it is pretty dangerous the most part of the time as you are running the risk of giving free cards and getting outdrawn.
Split pot: When two or more players share a pot because they tied.
Spread Limit: A special kind of game where there is a minimum bet limit and a maximum bet limit.
Stringer: Same as straight.
Structure: In a poker tournament the structure is the blinds, time and payout system. This is how many time has to pass before the blinds to increase, how much do the blinds increase in each step, when will the players start to place ante (in addition to the blinds) how many time to rest are they allowed per hour, how many seconds or minutes are in the time bank and the payout in percentage of the total pool for each position.
Suited cards: Having the cards in the pocket of the same suit.

Ahh the showdown, would have to be, for me, the most fun and even anticipated time in the game. As for the split pot, well that is not really my most liked event in a game of poker purely because I don’t like to share, but I guess that ultimately something is better than nothing.
