If you are planning to play online poker you must know the terms used by players. This is a list of the terms starting with T.
T
Table: The table or board is where the game takes place. This can be real or virtual if you are playing at an online poker room. Also called to the set of 5 cards dealt face up, same as board.
Table blinds: The blinds which must be posted by the players on it. Usually this number also states the maximum and minimum money to sit at the table. This may vary a lot from site to site, but usually the minimum is 20x the big blinds and the maximum 100x the big blinds. Obviously the maximum and minimum limits only take place when you sit at the table and you can get more or less money due to the game fluctuations.
Table stakes: The stakes allowed for betting and raising in a given table.
Tell: The habits, characteristics, behavior or any other signs made by a player that give away clues of the hand he is holding. At online games it is much more difficult to know the tell of a player as you can not see his face, but still there are factors like the time they use to make an action that can tell.
Tierce: A straight flush formed by three cards instead of five.
Tilt: A very bad call or bet made by a reckless player, commonly due to his frustration over previous rounds. Tilting is what makes donks or fish to lose most part of their money and your objective as a solid player is to heat them up until they tilt.
Time: The period of time given to a player to take a decision. If you run out of time and you got no time bank, your hand will be folded.
Time Bank: An amount of time that is activated when the regular time expires. For example you may have 10 seconds to act and 60 seconds in your time bank. If it takes to you 15 seconds to act you will be deducted 5 seconds from your time bank. This time bank is given at the beginning of a tournament and it is the same for all players. In ring games usually you are given no time bank or the time bank will be increasing when a given number of rounds have passed. If your regular time expires and there is no time left in your time bank, your hand will be automatically folded.
Toke: It is a tip given by the winner of the hand to the dealer. As there is no physical dealer in online poker, this term is not used at all.
Top pair: Pairing a card from your hole to the highest card on the flop.
Trips: Same as three of a kind, just another name.
Turn: The fourth card dealt face up in a Hold’em table. Also a player’s turn is when he has to act.
“Tierce” this is completely new to me as I myself am completely new to the game. Is there any chance that anyone could explain this to me in a little more detail as that would be rather helpful. I understand the general straight flush with 3 cards and not 5 but when can this occur, under what circumstances? etc. Thankyou.
