It is a must for a player to know the terms used by other players at an online poker table; this is a list of the terms from U to Z.
U
Under the gun: The under the gun player is the player immediately next to the big blinds player. It is called like that because he is the first to act. When you are talking about the game position of a player, the under the gun (UTG) is used as a reference. For example being in the UTG+3 position means to be three positions to the left to the UTG player.
Underdog: A hand or person holding a hand who is not the most favored to win a pot or is behind another player at a given time in a table.
Up cards: Cards dealt in a face up position. In Texas Hold’em all community cards are up cards.
V
Valet: Name given to the jack (J)
Value: Betting for value has the same meaning as selling a hand; this is to bet a small amount of money with the expectation of others to call it because you got the best hand. Also this name is given to a draw that if it is called by enough players it will have a positive expectation or good pot odds.
Variance: The measure of ups and downs of your bankroll. It is also used to calculate the amount of money that you will win in a given period of time or your winning expectations on a medium or long run. Of course it can also be used for the opposite, to calculate your losing expectations on the long run or in a given period of time, but good players do not lose money on the long run and bad players don’t do calculations.
Vigorish: The money taken by the house to run a game or another name for the profit of the house.
W
Wager: It is the same as to bet or to raise. It is also a name for the chips or money you are using in order to bet or raise.
Wash: To shuffle the deck.
Weak: A player who is easily scared out when it comes to the flop play. It has nothing to do with the preflop play, as a player may call a lot of preflops and then easily fold on the flop. Being a weak player is not a good thing and the worst thing a player can be is loose at the preflop play and weak after that. It is just the opposite of aggressive.
Wild card: It is a card which can be used as any other card, a joker. Texas Hold’em doesn’t have any joker as it is played with a standard 52 card deck.
Wing: Having a wing is to be on a winning streak. This is just a matter of luck, as well as losing streaks. Solid players will always win money on the long run and donks will lose it.

Never heard of “washing” the deck, that is interesting, I think I may use that term next time I have a game with a group of friends, brush up on my poker jargon so I can both impress and confuse them with the terminology that I have learnt, Loving this site more and more every time I come here. Thanks
I am so glad that all of them are up now, I’ve read them from A all the way to Z and these have really helped me to not only improve my game in a sense but mostly helped me to understand the game and not feel like im drowning when it comes to poker conversation, keep up the good work please!
That was really informative for me, I do wonder though why the jack is nicknamed the valet? That is really interesting and new to me, never heard of it until now.
